Wash up. Start by washing your face with a warm washcloth. Run the tap until the water is just barely hot, soak the washcloth, then ring it out and place it on your face till it starts to cool. Be careful not to burn yourself—you only want to open up your pores.

2
Exfoliate your skin. Wash your face with a gentle exfoliant, taking care not to rub too hard.
3
Rinse well. Soak your washcloth in warm water again, and rinse your face well, gently scrubbing as you do.
4
Get two ice cubes. Rub the first ice cube over the acne on your face until the area goes numb. When your face goes numb, stop; leave your face alone until it's warm again.
If you have a lot of acne, work in sections. When one section goes numb, move to the next section.
Repeat this process around your face.
5
Wash your face with a warm cloth. This will help warm your skin back up, and it will feel great, too!
6
Treat individual pimples. Apply a treatment directly on the worst offenders, rather than treating your whole face. Here are some tips on what to use:
Benzoyl peroxide. This is a common active ingredient in over-the-counter (OTC) acne medication.
Salicylic acid. You can buy it OTC, or you can crush aspirin, add water, and make a paste. Apply it directly on the zit, and leave it on—preferably overnight.
Tea tree oil. Swab a little onto each pimple. It is an antibacterial agent.

Longer Term Solutions

1
Sleep. Sleep deprivation and stress can cause hormonal changes, which in turn make your face more susceptible to breakouts. Get a full eight hours of sleep every night, and practice stress-reducing techniques such as meditation and yoga.

Shampoo your hair regularly. Oils from your hair can cause acne. In addition, change your pillowcase every 4-5 days—every week, minimum.
If you have longer hair, tie it back, away from your face.
Wash your face regularly during the day. The more oily your skin, the more frequenty you should wash it. Be sure to use a gentle, non-drying cleanser. The goal is not to dry your skin out, which could actually make things worse, but to keep the excess oils off your skin.
3
Take oral contraceptives. These have been shown to reduce or eliminate acne. Talk to your doctor or your dermatologist about your needs.
